"Feed-a-Family" has provided over 11,000 meals
Since launching in May, Misión De Caridad’s “Feed a Family” program has made over 270 deliveries of healthy groceries from local stores to families in need in Northern Mexico.
As summer sets in, families in San Luis Rio Colorado (SLRC - a small town in Mexico) are still in lockdown amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of CV-19 cases within SLRC continues to rise, and many do not have enough money to support their families. Temperatures are between 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit and the people we deliver to don’t even have access to running water.
Through the support of our generous donors, MdC’s “Feed a Family” program has continued to provide assistance to these families. In each delivery, our teams work a minimum of 10 hours over 2-3 days to deliver meat, eggs, milk, fresh produce and dry goods from local businesses, along with pamphlets containing helpful information (i.e. depression, single motherhood).
Inflation from CV-19 contributes to rising food prices, and more families will continue to need assistance. Many families are farmworkers that will continue to be out of work and unable to leave their house.
As the “Feed a Family” program continues, we have realized the need within the SLRC community for a long-term assistance and ways to lift families out of poverty. As we look forward to opening Casa Esperanza for refugees, we also recognize the importance of providing assistance to residents, many of whom are refugees that fled from southern Mexico.
As we continue this program, we appreciate your support.
