It's World Friendship Day!
They say it’s a dream job to work with your friends. Here at Misión de Caridad, we completely agree! At the heart of our work is a network of relationships built on trust, respect, and commitment to serving the most vulnerable in our communities.
Since today is World Friendship Day, we are celebrating two amazing friends that form the core of our organization!
Our co-founders Jean Sicurella and Francisco Ortega met in 2016 while Jean was on a mission trip to Mexico. Francisco, who was the pastor of the church that hosted Jean’s team, was one of the translators. Despite coming from different backgrounds, they both shared a heart to serve the poor and marginalized. In 2018, the influx of caravans from Central America brought thousands of women and children to the US-Mexico border, where they lived in unhealthy and unsafe conditions. Jean and Francisco knew they had to do something!
What started as an idea for a Go Fund Me then became a non-profit which now has served over 600+ families living in Mexico at the border!

Besides doing lots of humanitarian work together, Jean and Francisco know how to have fun! Guess who won this round of Rummikub?
Recently, Jean and Francisco even tried going live on Instagram together! You can watch their hilarious and informative conversation by logging on to our Instagram page @misiondecaridad. Link at the bottom of this page.
What are some great partnerships you have seen grow out of friendships? Let us know in the comments!
In the mean time, we’ll be waiting to see what other marching orders…. oops, I mean… program ideas these two will be scheming!
